Aistear is the name of the national curriculum framework and means Journey.

Our learning programme focuses on the holistic development of each child’s social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive needs and is underpinned by Aistear.

Our curriculum areas are linked to the four interconnected Aistear themes:

  • Well-being
  • Identity & Belonging
  • Communicating
  • Exploring & Thinking.

Children learn many different things simultaneously and a curriculum that is inter-linked to more than one area of learning shows that this is taking place in our learning environment – both indoors and outdoors.

The curriculum is carried out through a yearly plan of weekly themes and activities within our daily routine.

We use elements from High scope, Montessori and Outdoor Education methods to achieve our curriculum. Actively learning through Play is central to both our curriculum and Aistear.

We also have a recording process in which relevant written and photographic observations for each child are maintained throughout the year in order to follow and provide for each child’s individual development.

We evaluate each child’s development through a system of observations, check lists and bi-annual reports for the parents.

Síolta Standards

The Pre-school aims to follow the principles of Síolta where a quality service is provided to the community and through a well-balanced curriculum that is underpinned by Aistear.
